Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at Stage AE in honor of Pittsburgh native Cpl. Doug Vitale where all proceeds will go toward building a “Smart Home” for Doug and his wife in Peters Township.
Doug was leading his squad on patrol on September 25th, 2011 when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan, causing him to lose both legs above the knee, as well as causing strokes on both sides of his brain. Since then, Doug, with his wife Alexis by his side, has been part of the Polytrauma Rehabilitation program for brain injuries in Tampa Florida. Doug and his wife were married just a year prior to the accident and she has stood by his side every step of the way.
Presented by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation, through their joint program called “Building for America’s Bravest” strives to raise funds and build customized “Smart Homes” for the most severely injured post 9/11 veterans. Doug Vitale in Pittsburgh is one of those veterans.
In addition to the Lt. Dan Band, “America’s Tenor” Danny Rodriguez, also known as the singing policeman, will take the stage with his mellifluous vocals. Danny is the New York City cop who helped bring the country an uplifting spirit of promise and hope with his stirring rendition of “God Bless America” after the September 11 terrorist attacks and has subsequently offered his talent to the Lt. Dan Band Benefit Concerts across the country. World renowned artist and American patriot, Scott LoBaido will also be at the concert painting a tribute onstage to thank the Pittsburgh community for their support of CPL Vitale.
