Pittsburgh showed their love for Tom Keifer by packing Altar Bar on Friday February 15, 2013. He and his band came out strong starting with an electric set and then switched into several acoustic songs, some of which included his wife Savannah joining him on stage. Included in the acoustic set was a blues version of “Shake Me” and his new single “The Flower Song” from his upcoming solo album. He both ended his acoustic set and transitioned back into an electric set with an amazing version of the Cinderella power ballad “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)”
Being from the Philadelphia area, he told the crowd “since we’re both from Pennsylvania, it’s like I’m coming home so this song is for you” as he tore into “Coming Home”. After a short intermission, Tom along with Savannah and the rest of his band came back out to a rocking version of The Beatles “With A Little Help From My Friends” and ended with the Cinderella hit “Gypsy Road” which the crowd went crazy for.
Tom expressed how he grew up on the music of the late 60’s including Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones and his stage performance is very reminiscent of that of Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler. Several years ago he was faced with the possibility of never singing again as the result of a partially paralyzed vocal cord & nodules. After surgery and rehab, Tom has done a great job retraining his voice and sounded incredibly strong. He got the crowd involved by shaking hands of the fans in front of the stage, holding the microphone stand out into the crowd and ending by thanking everybody and telling us to keep rocking for another 30 years!
