Frank Zappa was a musician for the ages. He created some of the most diverse and interesting music in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s releasing 99 albums (the 100th is scheduled to be released this year) that encapsulates many different styles of music. Frank died in 1993 but his music and legacy lives on through his oldest son Dweezil, who over the last 10 years has been bringing Frank’s music to the stage in the form of Zappa Plays Zappa.
The current tour celebrates the 40th anniversary of the album One Size Fits All which the band played in its entirety. From the first notes of Inca Roads to the closing track of Sofa No. 2 the band was on fire and the audience was captivated. But the night was far from over as there was still much more music to soak up.
Dweezil stated onstage that with over 400 songs to choose from it was difficult to choose which songs to play. The band cranked out some classics such as Society Pages, My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama, The Grand Wazoo, and Sinister Footwear.
The amount of talent on stage was impressive. The band consisting of Scheila Gonzalez, Chris Norton, Ben Thomas, Kurt Morgan and Ryan Brown was on fire, and it was obvious that they enjoyed bringing the music of Frank Zappa back to the stage and to a new audience. With the amount of material that is available here is to hoping that Dweezil continues to bring us more of Frank’s music.
The tour continues until well into the summer and if you can get a chance to catch it, you will not be disappointed.
