–   Joe Satriani is one of those guitarists that is always a joy to watch, and when he rolled into the Carnegie Library Music Hall it was no exception.  Currently on his 30th anniversary retrospective tour – Surfing to Shockwave – Joe and his amazingly talented backing band (Mike Keneally on guitar/keyboards, Marco Minnemann on drums and Bryan Bellar on bass) treated the audience to  a career spanning set of 24 songs that enthralled and captivated everyone in attendance.Joe Satriani-7344

The band was as tight as could be and the sound was impeccable.  Joe kicked everything off with the title tracks off of his latest release Shockwave Supernova and ran through 2 sets of material including classics such as “Ice 9,” “Summer Song” and “Flying in a Blue Dream” to newer songs such as “Crazy Joey and “Cataclysmic.”   The night ended with and encore that included “Big Bad Wolf” and “Surfing with the Alien.”

While the highlight of a Joe Satriani show is always the music, the stage set was also visually stunning including several light towers and a huge video screen that showed various videos throughout the night.

Joe Satriani is an amazing talent, who puts on a show that must be seen (heard) to believe.  Check out some photos from the show below.
