King Diamond has made quite a comeback over the last year. After a very successful headlining tour last fall and a spot on this past summer’s Mayhem Festival, King Diamond is back on the road, this time performing the 1987 concept album Abigail in its entirety.
The tour stopped at Pittsburgh this past Monday, but without usual openers Exodus. Instead Pittsburgh was treated to a solid performance by Electric Citizen. Fronted by Laura Dolan, the band has that 70’s metal sound that is similar to early Black Sabbath and Pentagram.
After a brief stage change over King Diamond hit the stage with the classic “Welcome Home” followed by “Sleepless Nights” and “Halloween.” After a few Mercyful Fate songs including the classic “Melissa” the stage backdrop switched to the La’Fey Mansion and King Diamond began the story of Abigail.
King Diamond is one of those performers who always puts on a great stage show with an elaborate production and this show was no exception. The band featuring long time collaborator Andy LaRoque was spot on and backed the King up perfectly. Luckily for the fans who were not able to attend this show two of the upcoming dates are being filmed for an eventual DVD release.
